Early Lead for Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. They kept the momentum going with back-to-back home runs from Kronenberger in the second and Kloss to make it 6-0.
Sycamores’ Resilience
Indiana State did not give up. With runners on second and third in the fourth, Hannah Welch walked to score the first run of the game for Indiana State. Chipps then hit a two-run single to bring in Chipps’ second run of the game. Danielle Henning then drove in Chipps with a two-run double to give Indiana State a 6-6 tie. In the seventh, Danielle Henning got things going with a three-run double to make it 6-6.
Back-and-Forth Battle
Notre Dame took the lead again in the fourth when Gaskins hit an RBI single. The Irish increased their lead to 10-6 with three runs in the fifth.
Sycamores’ Rally
Indiana State bounced back in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to 10-9. Leading the way for the hosts was Isabella Henning, who went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Final Blow
In the bottom of the 6th, Notre Dame got one more run with an RBI single from Grimm.
Pitching Duel
The Sycamores’ starting pitcher was Megan Asher, who allowed seven runs and seven hits in the circle.
In the second frame, Sackett struck out three and kept the Fighting Irish from getting a hit.
Cassi Newbanks’ Effort
In the bottom of the ninth, Indiana State’s Cassi Newbanks allowed six runs and six hits in her final 3.0 frames to fall to 6-6.
